Dalle Alpi i Galli discesero in Italia e misero a ferro e fuoco tutto il paese. Immediatamente lo spavento dei nemici e il terrore della morte presero gli abitanti delle città. I romani inviarono subito, contro le folte schiere di barbari, il console con due legioni, ma i Galli li raggiunsero, li sconfissero in un'aspra battaglia presso il fiume Allia e si diressero verso Roma. Allora i Romani, terrorizzati, abbandonarono la Città e si rifugiarono nei boschi con i vecchi, le donne e i figli. I Galli raggiunsero senza pericolo la Città e posero l'assedio al Campidoglio, la rocca di Roma. Stavano già scalando le mura quando con grandi strepiti le oche, ben sveglie, destarono il guardiano del Campidoglio, Marco Manlio. Allora Manlio chiamò i soldati romani, che combattendo con grande energia respinsero i Galli: così il Campidoglio fu liberato dal pericolo dei barbari, e Roma fu salvata dagli strepiti delle oche.

Οι Ρωμαίοι σταλεί αμέσως, κατά το παχύ ζώνες των βαρβάρων, η κονσόλα με δύο λεγεώνες, αλλά οι Γαλάτες ενώθηκαν μαζί τους, τους νίκησε σε μια σκληρή μάχη στον ποταμό Allia και κατευθύνθηκε προς τη Ρώμη. Οι Γαλάτες έφθασε με ασφάλεια στην πόλη και πολιόρκησε το Καπιτώλιο, το φρούριο της Ρώμης. Ήταν αναρρίχηση ήδη από τα τείχη, όταν η χήνες με ένα μεγάλο θόρυβο, ξύπνιος, ξύπνησε ο φύλακας του Καπιτωλίου, Μάρκο Manlio. Manlio κάλεσε στη συνέχεια οι Ρωμαίοι στρατιώτες, αγωνίζονται με μεγάλη ενέργεια που οδήγησε τους Γαλάτες, όπως το Capitol απελευθερώθηκε από τον κίνδυνο των βαρβάρων, και η Ρώμη σώθηκε από τη βοή των χηνών.
